I don't see how a human-oriented name is usable as anything but search
criteria, which is a "pick from a list" solution. As for a domain name, I
think that's a hint.
As a software designer, anything that has exceptions that will not identify
the IdP is effectively a hint. The real solution is what you do when the
hint fails. I realize not everybody agrees with that approach, but that's
the only way I can think about the problem. It's ok to assume the exceptions
are in the minority, but we can't ignore them.
